Miona C. Gordon

After a twenty year career in Human Resources, Physician Relations and National Managed Care Services at Charter Behavioral Health Systems, Miona joined Employee Assistance Services in 2000 as their Executive Director. She purchased the business in 2001 from Universal Health Services and transformed EAS into a diverse outpatient behavioral health organization, Southern Behavioral Services. Miona’s background in behavioral health coupled with a degree in Business Administration from Mercer University’s Stetson School of Business and Economics has provided her the tools to establish Southern Behavioral as a well-respected outpatient behavioral health leader. As a provider of employee assistance programs, Miona specializes in corporate trainings and Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISDs). In addition to her role as President and owner of Southern Behavioral Services, Miona is co-founder and co-owner of Anger Management Services.

Gwen Dixon

Gwen accepted the position of Office Manager for   Employee Assistance Services, a subsidiary of Charter Behavioral Health Systems, in 1999. With a strong background in office management for Waukesha Pearce Industries and Libbey Glass in Louisiana and Pony Express in Macon, Gwen brings a vast knowledge base to the clients and staff of Southern Behavioral Services. She has been instrumental in the organized transition of this organization into a respected outpatient behavioral health company.


Dona B. Roell

Dona is Director of Credentialing for Southern Behavioral Services and brings over two decades of experience in private and corporate law, human resources management, behavioral healthcare and business process reengineering. Her legal background includes work with an attorney nationally recognized for his work in Social Security disability law, as well as support of the in-house legal department of Charter Behavioral Health Systems. While employed with Charter, Dona served as Director of Human Resources, was a member of the business process reengineering implementation team and provided credentialing services at Charter Lake Behavioral Health. A 2000 graduate of Wesleyan College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, Dona also is a professional freelance indexer and is sole proprietor of AdVerbum Book Works.

Betsy Mills, LPC, CEAP

Betsy Mills, is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).   She received her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1987 from Ball State University in Indiana. Over the last twenty years, she has worked with all ages in both public and private settings including outpatient, inpatient and home-based services. Currently Betsy spends a great deal of time treating adults and adolescents with anxiety and depressive disorders . Her treatment of choice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) along with solution-focused techniques. As a trained and certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Betsy works within the criteria required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and is a National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC). As Director of   Clinical Services, Betsy's warm and genuine personality coupled with her vast behavioral health experience brings tremendous value to her clients and peers. For fun, Betsy loves to travel, eat gourmet food and watch great movies. She lives in Macon with her social-worker husband, American bulldog and Siamese cat.


Barbara Ann Newton, LMFT

Barbara Newton is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Her solution-focused family systems perspective has been effective with individuals, couples, families and groups for more than ten years. She enjoys working with clients using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when they are dealing with depression and anxiety, trauma and grief, anger, relationship difficulties and substance abuse. Much of her experience involves teaching effective discipline to parents to improve the behaviors of their children and adolescents. Two specific areas of interest are clients that have domestic violence concerns and attention deficit disorder behaviors. As a trained and certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Barbara works within the criteria required by the Department of Transportation (DOT). She provides a six week small group life skills course for children and adults that are distracted. Barbara also provides motivational and workplace trainings for Southern Behavioral Services.

Karen Jones Richardson, LPC

Karen Jones Richardson, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), earned her Master of Education degree in counseling from the University of Mississippi in 1999 and has been an LPC in the state of Georgia since 2003. Karen utilizes a holistic approach to treating clients and offers a variety of counseling methods to meet individual needs, including humanistic modalities, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused techniques, and emotionally-focused treatment methods. Karen also holds a Bachelor's degree in Art and enjoys using creative methods, as appropriate, to connect with clients. Her interest is helping people relieve the anxiety and depression that often accompany relationship and career issues, and she works primarily from a systems perspective. In addition to psychotherapy, Karen has worked as a career counselor and often employs personality assessments to increase insight and motivate clients for change.

 


Barbara J. Gaughf, LMFT

Barbara Gaughf, LMFT, received degrees in Communication and Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercer University. She is a certified facilitator in Prepare/Enrich, a specialized program for couples which can also be tailored to meet individual needs. As an LMFT, Barbara’s clients include couples, teens, families in transition, and individuals who are suffering from loss. Assisting families in transition and helping them to find appropriate adjustments is a focus of her practice. Within a framework of systems theory she uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Insight oriented therapy, as well as Solution Focused Brief Therapy.

Claire Davis, M.Div., LAPC

Claire Davis has been a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) in the state of Georgia since 2007 and a National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC) since 2004. She received her Master’s of Divinity from Duke University in 1995, and her Master’s of Science in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland in 2004. A former hospice chaplain and bereavement counselor, Claire has a special empathy with persons living through loss and grief. Her training in pastoral counseling values an individual's spirituality as a significant resource in reaching and maintaining emotional well-being. Claire provides therapy to EAP clients by utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative, and Existential therapy. She has a special interest in working with couples in crisis, in addition to families and individuals experiencing transition, depression, trauma, and loss. Prior to becoming a counselor, Claire worked in the information technology field for over twelve years. Claire lives in Macon with her husband and two cats: a Scottish Fold and a Ragdoll. She enjoys writing, music, and meeting people from different cultures and faiths around the world.

Jeannie O. Powell, LPC

Jeannie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Georgia Southern University and has worked in the behavioral health field for over nine years. Jeannie uses play therapy in her work with children and sometimes with adults. In addition to working part-time with Southern Behavioral Services, Jeannie works full-time at a well-known and respected child placing institution and is married and the mother of a young child.

Carol Mathias, LMFT, CHT

Carol is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Certified Hypnotherapist (CHT). A Cum Laude graduate of Wesleyan College, she received a Masters Degree in   Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercer School of Medicine.   She also received training from MentorCoach (tm) and is a certified DreamCoach".    As a seasoned therapist, success coach and trainer, Carol has established a reputation for her interactive and energetic programs.   She utilizes a variety of treatment disciplines, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and approaches that treat the family as a dynamic and complex system.   Specialties include life transition issues, depression and anxiety, trauma and loss, hypnotherapy, and relationship issues.    In addition to her private practice, coaching and training, Carol is a Certified Anger Management Facilitator and is co-founder and co-owner of Anger Management Services.
